According to Department of Transportation regulations, every person who wants to be licensed as a commercial driver must pass a DOT physical exam. This exam assesses a person’s general health and wellbeing to ensure they are fit and capable to operate a commercial vehicle. At CommunityMed Family Urgent Care in Haslet, Texas, we offer DOT physicals to residents throughout the area. With us, you can expect competitive rates, short wait times, and flexible appointments with walk-in availability.
What to Expect During a DOT Physical
In order to assess your physical fitness for commercial driving, a DOT physical will begin with a general overview of your medical history. We will ask if you have any history of dizziness or fainting, about your drug and alcohol use, if you have any specific illnesses like diabetes, and other additional topics. We will also conduct a physical exam to check your:
- Blood pressure
- Balance and reflexes
- Lung, spine, and limb function
- Vision and hearing
- Urinary system
- Mouth and throat
You’ll want to remember to bring a list of medications that you are taking (including dosage information), your glasses (if you wear them), and a current letter of clearance from a specialist if you have a chronic condition. And, since DOT physicals are not covered under insurance, a form of payment will be necessary.
